To Market

From one market lover to another. A global guide to my favorite markets.

Mercato di Ortygia - Syracusa, Italy

This mighty market is bustling with vendors, who love to errupt in song.

Held Monday - Saturday, walking through this market immediately transports you to another world - with the overwhelming beautify of Syracuse's fresh produce surrounding you. I have been to many a market, but Ortygias is arguably the most beautiful.

Looking for something to try? Pick up some fresh fruit to enjoy by the water, as you take in the Sicilian views.

Thirsty? A fresh squeezed lemon, orange juice is the perfect thirst quencher for a hot day!

Le Marche Raspail - Paris, France

Located in the 6th arrondissement, visiting the Raspail organic market is the best way to begin your Sunday morning in Paris.

Staying for a while? This is the perfect place to stock up on freshly baked breads, cheeses and beautiful fruits or veggies to snack on.

Not hungry? Simply pick up a gorgeous (and affordable!) bouquet to brighten up your room.

Just a quick trip? This is the perfect place for breakfast! One pain au chocolat and fresh squeezed orange juice, please!

Mercato Campo de' fiori - Rome, Italy

From fresh fruit and vegetables to packaged spices for your favorite Italian dishes, this Roman market has something for everyone. Open Monday - Saturday.

Looking for something to try? Have a fresh squeezed orange and pomegranate juice. You will not be disappointed!

Want to be entertained? Find the man, near the center of the market, selling the swiss army knife of vegetable tools. Not only is the product impressive, but the show he puts on is absolutely hilarious. I mean, he is already a YouTube star.

Just want to look? Make sure you stop by the flower market in the corner of the piazza. It is not to be missed.

Khari baoli - Delhi, India

This four centuries old market is an explosion of color, and organized chaos at its finest. The sheer number of spices you can find, along with lesser known ingredients, are well worth the visit.

However, do not expect this to be a leisurely stroll. The market is an erruption of sights and smells, filled with eye catching displays.

Torvehallerne - Copenhagen, Denmark

The perfect stop for a quick bite or a more extended shopping trip, Torvehallerne is a mecca of nordic food.

Make sure to try as many bites as possible, but do not miss the opportunity to try Havgus "Klassikeren" cheese from Arla Unika and Hyldeblomst (elderflower) juice.

Want something more substantial? Former Noma dessert chef, Rosio Sanchez, opened a made from scratch taqueria - using only the freshiest ingredients. It is wonderful!
